Jeep Cherokee "COOLANT SENSOR BAD"
Question: I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that intermittently shows "COOLANT SENSOR BAD" on the display panel. I have replaced the Coolant Level Sensor in the recovery tank and the Coolant Temperature Sensor in the thermostat housing but that did not fix the problem. What sensor causes "COOLANT SENSOR BAD" to show on the display panel?
What is the resistance of the sensor when the coolant level is correct? What should I look for next?
Answer: The Coolant Sensor Bad Message indicates a bad Coolant Level Sensor, a bad Vehicle Information Center (VIC) or an open in the wiring.
The Coolant Level Sensor resistance is 3.3K ohms. If you check it at the sensor and the VIC connector, you will be able to determine if it is the sensor or the wiring.
Jeep Cherokee REAR LAMP FAILURE I
Question: I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the brake lights do not work. I replaced all the bulbs, checked the fuse, recycled the key and I still get a REAR LAMP FAILURE on my message center. I have turning lights running lights and backup lights. The only brake lights I do have are at the top of the rear door. Can you help?
Answer: This is a problem I have been seeing more and more of lately. The brake light circuit goes through the Lamp Outage Module (LOM). When the LOM senses a inoperative lamp, the Vehicle Information Center (VIC) displays the data to the vehicle operator.
Here is how to test the system:
